"Thine alabaster cities gleam..."
-- From "America the Beautiful" by Katherine Lee Bates

Our hearts go out to those who suffered the tragedy of Tuesday, September 11. To everyone who has been personally affected, we extend our sympathy. We dedicate the photos in this week's showcase to those who have lost so much.

To Support the American Red Cross Call 1-800 HELP NOW

America will never forget
"In every generation, the world has produced enemies of human freedom. They have attacked America because we are freedom's home and defender. And the commitment of our fathers is now the calling of our time. Our responsibility to history is already clear: To answer these and rid the world of evil."
    -- President George W. Bush (September 14, 2001)

America Unites
"If the terrorists who struck New York City and Washington, D.C., on Tuesday thought that murdering more than 5,000 innocent people would bring America and its market economy to its knees, we have a news flash for them: It didn't work.

The patriotism demonstrated by Americans Friday during the national day of prayer and remembrance and the outpouring of condolences and support from people around the world show that their heinous acts are having the opposite effect of what they intended.

Even America's enemies seem to realize that the real martyrs in this tragedy aren't the suicidal hijackers but the passengers and crew on the four aircraft, the people hard at work at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and the New York police and firefighters who gave their lives attempting to save people they didn't even know."
