Stock photography, photos: Female Hummingbird

Stock photos of This is most likely a Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus), but it is very difficult to distinguish them from Allen's Hummingbird (Selasphorus sasin) in the field. In just the right light, these birds take on a beautiful irridescent green and gold. The females are plentiful in late September and October along the Texas Gulf coast. The males disappeared in early September. This specimen was shot mid-morning as I hid amongst the bushes in my backyard.
