S. reginae is a trunkless evergreen clump with leaves arising from a crown. The leaves reach four to five feet in height and can be as large as three to five feet wide. Bird of Paradise is cultivated on commercial plantations in southern Ivory Coast as an ornamental export flower to European markets.
