Stock photography, photos: Hippos - Ghana Stock photos of Hippos (Hippopotamus amphibious) in the Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary near Wa on a stretch of river about 40 km long, with a 1� km strip on each side of its banks. The Lobi people, along with a few Hausa and Dagaata fishermen, live in the area immediately around the sanctuary. Hippos are sacred to the Lobi, and so they support their protection.
